72. Grades (marks) encourage students to learn.

72. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Grades (marks) encourage students to learn. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

introduction:
Ask a boy what is purpose of the student - is to achieve high grades.
in the meritocracy society, a lot of emphasis of grades, academic achievement.
Personal examples - streaming placement very much depend on grades.
However, does it encourage student to learn? I disagree that grade encourage learning.

purpose of grades - formality of knowing how much you understand.

- grade forces, not encourages, a student to learn. Only a thirsty horse wants to drink.
the product of force learning primary achieve cognitively learning - head knowledge only.

- grades sometime kills learning, afraid of failure.

- grades limits the scope of learning, instead of exploring beyond the scope of the textbook.

Other ways which encourages learning such create an environment of fun, creative and love.
e.g. Child learn in nursery without grading.
